For my last blog I cleaned up a lot of old images of Joe Walsh from 1971. So, I figured I should keep working on Joe Walsh photos and cleanup some of my favorite photos from Summerfest 1973 and some of my favorites of Joe!
It was in 1973 when Joe Walsh had his band, Barnstorm ,with Joe Vitale, Rocke Grace, and Kenny Passerelli
When I took these photos, I could not move from the spot I had secured because it was so crowded. If I could have moved, I would have pictures of the drummer and bass player! Joe Vitale is such a great drummer and Kenny Passerelli a great bass player.
Enjoy a look at Summerfest and Joe in 1973. I cleaned them up a lot but a few could use a little more work!

Last night I had the opportunity to see and photograph Tears for Fears and Hall and Oates at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. It was a great show. That will be next week's blog after some editing.
This week we have Joe Walsh at Summerfest in 1973.
Take a look at one of my favorite musicians when he was just few years younger. I was young too at almost 19 years old!

This week we look at the legend, Curtis Mayfield, who I photographed at Summerfest in 1973.
It's always fun to look at Summerfest's Main Stage on the grass hill here, where the speakers were held together with rope!
His bass player is shown here, throwing his guitar in the air while playing! Anybody remember his name?
Curtis, had a remarkable career, but had a very tough life. In 1990, at a show in New York, some lighting equipment fell on him, paralyzing him from the neck down.
This, did not stop him from writing songs! He would compose, sing and record while on his back!
Famous for being in The Impressions and doing soundtracks for movies like Shaft, he had a great career through a lot of hardship. He lost a leg due to diabetes and finally died from complications of the disease in 1999.
He had his own record label Curtom, and a recording studio, in Chicago for many years.
I will always remember him for his famous song, Superfly!

Blood, Sweat and Tears at Summerfest in 1973.

Summerfest 1973 and Humble Pie was a huge event/concert.
We basically had a riot with people coming over the barbed wire fence in front of the stage and if I remember right, a helicopter was needed for the band to arrive and leave.
My black and white disintegrating film, shows people coming over the front of the stage and arrests being made. After all, I was a photojournalist for a newspaper so I covered it all.
The show was excellent excellent and very, very loud!
The stage I also remember was vibrating so much is was hard to shoot a photo!
Enjoy a look at a legendary night and remember that any photos ordered would be cleaned up a lot. With everyone stealing my photos off the internet, I no longer clean them up before a sale.

At Milwaukee's Summerfest music festival in 1973, Stephen Stills and his band, Manassas, gave a wonderful performance.
Manassas, was formed in 1971, by Stephen Stills who had broken up with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSNY) in 1970. Of course, this would be the first of many CSNY breakups, but that is another story sometime with photos to be included.
With CSNY, The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers band breakups, we have a lot of wonderful musicians looking for something to do! Stephen Stills formed Manassaas as a result of these breakups and we had a terrific, very underrated band.
The first album the guys made was a double album recorded in Miami very quickly because they were so talented and had a lot of material. Another album would follow further on down the road.
The talent in this band is just amazing when you think about it! Enjoy a look at one of the best concerts I ever saw!
I just realized that the guitar Stephen Stills is playing is the same as the one Doug Yankus of the band Soup played. I think I've even seen Johnny Winter play it. Does anyone know what kind of guitar this is?
