On June 18, 1972, the Rolling Stones played at the Minneapolis Metropolitan Sports Arena.
I was a photographer for the Bugle American at the time and traveled from Milwaukee to Minneapolis for the show with a friend who was going to do the review. We were given a couple of tickets which were way up in the rafters! Our seats were so far away from the stage for any really good photographs, unfortunately. Mick never traveled over to our side of the stage because of Nicky Hopkins and his large grand piano blocking that part of the stage. I did what I could and have a few images here.
The stage itself had a pattern of a dragon on it and Mick Jagger was prancing and dancing all over it! The lighting was amazing in that they shot lights from the back of the stage to a mirror on the ceiling which then bounced the light back onto Mick and the band. It was really interesting.
I was 18 years old at the time and The Rolling Stones was my favorite band. That show is still etched in my mind as one of the best shows I have ever seen and The Rolling Stones is still my favorite band!
The Rolling Stones ,I believe, is the longest running and most famous rock'n'roll band in the history of popular music. They started as a blues band and then brought the blues to rock'n'roll.
Enjoy a few photographs of The Rolling Stones and check out the cars that are pulling into the parking lot in the oneof the pictures. That makes me feel old!

On November 27, 1971, John Mayall and his Bluesbreakers came to the Milwaukee Arena for a show with Joe Walsh and the James Gang.
John Mayall and his band provided the blues and Joe Walsh provided the rock that evening and no one left disappointed.
The harmonica playing by John and the beautiful holder for his harmonicas was amazing! It was made from some beautiful wood and very unique just like his custom guitar.
In writing this blog I could not find the name of the guitar player shown here with John Mayall. Whoever he was he was very, very good. If anybody knows his name please let me know.
Enjoy some photographs from that night and check out all my blogs which are archived here on my website.

On November 27, 1971, I photographed Joe Walsh and the James Gang at the Milwaukee Arena. John Mayall and his Bluesbreakers also played that night and I think they were the opening act. The James Gang was very popular at that time with their songs "Funk #49" and "Walk Away" being very sucessful records.
The James Gang was just a 3 piece band with Joe Walsh accompanied by Jim Fox on drums and Dale Peters on bass. This was the ultimate power trio of musicians and many bands tried to do the same thing. Joe Walsh left the band shorthly after these photos were taken to do a solo career and the James Gang was never successful without him.
The classic lineup came together a few more times after that. They reunited for an election rally for Bill Clinton in Cleveland, Ohio which is where the band actually originated. In 1996 and then again in 2006, they toured the United States with a keyboardist and backing vocalists.
Enjoy a look into the past of the James Gang.
