The Wilson Center here in Brookfield, Wisconsin has an annual guitar festival. There is a lot happenig both outside and inside the Wilson Center. The photo of this little girl having fun is cute I think! She was listening to the band outside and having fun.
This year for the main act, the Elvin Bishop Big Fun Trio performed to a full house.
I've photographed and met Elvin a few times since 1977. Always a great show and an amazing guitar player. Could listen to his stories and slide guitar forever!
The Big Fun Trio consists of Elvin, Bob Welsh and Willy Jordan.
Bob Welsh played both keyboards and guitar. Not sure which he is better at but his guitar playing is awesome!
Willy Jordan hand played a Peruvian drumbox and it was a great sound to hear. Who needs a drum set with this talented guy!
Enjoy some photos of a great night at a beautiful festival just a couple of miles from my home!

On Sunday night April 9th here in Milwaukee, the Elvin Bishop Group and Marshall Tucker bands were doing a show. Wish I could have made it because they are both awesome bands! Too much going on right now.
So, we look back at a show that Elvin Bishop did at Summerfest in 1977. This was when Mickey Thomas was in his band before he went on to Jefferson Starship.
Elvin at this time had two great hits, Travelin' Shoes and Fooled Around and Fell In Love. Mickey Thomas who did the vocals on Fooled Around and Feel In Love that made him famous.
I just heard a story about Elvin's Gibson ES-345 that he has played for years. During his days in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Louis Meyer traded this Gibson for a Fender Telecaster that Elvin was playing. Elvin has played the Gibson ever since!
Enjoy a look at Elvin doing a daytime show and a few beer barrels from Summerfest! I like the photos of Elvin getting out of the limo with a Schlitz and the one of him sleeping backstage. They had just flown in from Hawaii and were a bit tired.

They are $30.00 each and $6.00 for shipping. Again, they are printed by Shutterfly who prints on a heavy stock that makes the prints suitable for framing when the month is over. They really do an awesome job I think and everyone loves them based on the comments I received about the 2016 calendar.
Email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to place your order and we can get you a calendar before Christmas no problem.

Before I begin, let me thank Andreas Wiegel in Vienna, Austria, for letting me know that Roger Sutton was the bass player and Tommy Eyre played keyboards for the Mark Almond band. In my blog #68 on the Mark Almond Band, I was not sure from my research and asked for some information on that. Very cool to see that I reach out to Vienna, Austria and Andreas!!
This week's blog looks back at Elvin Bishop and his band that came to Summerfest here in Milwaukee in 1979. This was an awesome show and had a guy named Mickey Thomas playing Saxophone and doing great vocals. Mickey Thomas then went on to Jefferson Starship and nearly became a household name. He has such a great voice. I forgot that he played saxophone until I looked back at these photographs!
Elvin Bishop is coming back to Milwaukee for the Harley Davidson Anniversary concerts at the Summerfest grounds on August 29th! I am looking forward to the show because I haven't seen him since 1979 when he was sleeping in the dressing room! The band that night was worn out because they had just come from Hawaii I believe!
Have a great week and enjoy the photographs. The first photograph is a copy of a press kit Elvin had back then.
Thanks,
Rich Zimmermann
