I have more of the past year at Summerfest to share with you. This week it is the Marshall Tucker Band.
I've photographed the band three times now with three different versions of the band- 1975 at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, 1978 at Summerfest with Willie Nelson and then this past July 9, 2022 at Summerfest again.
The one person in all three versions of the band is vocalist Doug Gray who is the only original member of the band left. However, the band is hot as ever!
Chatted with him before the show and he still has the energy and power to lead the band forever! And he really meant forever when he said, "I love what I do and can't think of doing anything else!"
His voice is just as good as it was in the old days and the new band is very polished.
Marcus James Henderson plays keyboards, sax and flute. I was amazed at how good and versatile he is.
By the way do you know the story of how the band got it's name? In 1972, it was on the key of the rehearsal space they used. Marshall Tucker was a blind piano tuner in South Carolina where they band is from!
Enjoy a look at them from the past summer.

I have done blogs on Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg before but I want to revisit these musicians because of some photos I found recently.
Also, because I am still surprised that Dan Fogelberg is not in the Hall of Fame. Dan needs to be in there for many reasons.
These photos are from two different tours that Dan did. In January 1976 Dan Fogelberg came to Milwaukee. He was the leader of the band as it is famously said and had a pedal steel guitar player, a drummer and three other guitar players.
It was a wonderful night of his classic music and yet he can really rock it!! One minute he would be just sitting on a stool alone and then he'd be with his band sitting on stools with acoustic guitars, the pedal steel guitar and a drummer.
A little break and the electric guitars came out and it became a rock show!
Then in December 1977 he toured with Tim Weisberg, a very talented flute player among other instruments. Just the two of them were playing. We all sat on the floor and watched in amazement! I don't think my knees could do that anymore!!
Dan and Tim were best friends and you could tell by how much fun they were having. I sold Tim Weisberg my photos of him and Dan a few years back for his website and Facebook page so check those out. Tim Weisberg is still in California playing a bit which is great.
Also check out the Facebook page titled "Induct Dan Fogelberg in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". Some people are trying hard to get Dan in to the Hall of Fame. He was such a very talented musician. Dan passed way too early of cancer at age 56 in 2007.
Enjoy the photos.

A favorite band of mine for many years has been Poco. They have gone through many changes and still tour!
This is the second version I believe without Jim Messina on November 22, 1972 at the Milwaukee Auditorium. Here are Richie Furay, Timothy B. Schmidt, Paul Cotton, Geaorge Grantham and my personal favorite, Rusty Young on pedal steel.
This show was almost 47 years ago! Now I feel old.
I put the guys on my website long ago but here are some freshly edited photos.
Enjoy and have a great Thanksgiving holiday!

On October 5, 2019, my old friends Pure Prairie League came to Milwaukee. For the second time I have had to miss their show because of prior commitments!! This is a great band with a lot of wonderful history.
The show in the pictures here was on December 1, 1972 when I was a senior in high school and working with the Bugle American newspaper as a music photographer. They played in Milwaukee at the Performing Arts Center which is still my favorite venue in Milwaukee.
Ben Sidren opened the show followed by Pure Prairie League, with John Prine being the headliner act.
This was way before Vince Gill came and left the band. That will be a separate blog someday soon.
Enjoy a look at the guys in 1972.

I first met Linda Ronstadt in a locker room/dressing room in 1972 when I was 17 years old! I then took one of my favorite photographs ever! That black and white photo is with Ramblin' Jack Elliott listening to her warm up before she went on stage.
I've been working on some photos of Linda Ronstadt from 1972 and 1980 lately for something coming up!
Other than that picture, these are photos from 1980 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Always have loved Linda's talented voice. She has sung just about every type of music I believe other than opera in her long career.
Not sure on the band here but I think the main guitar player is Danny Kortchmar. Any help in identifying the band would be appreciated.
Enjoy the photos.

Merry Christmas!
Got to photograph and listen to my old friend ,Fred Dobrinski ,with his new version of the band Heartsfield. They actually have been around a few years but I haven't been able to see them.
They all played close enough to our neighborhood to go see on December 9th in Racine, Wisconsin at George's Tavern.
Heartsfield has had a few versions since the original group in 1975 when I first saw them.
Great to hear all those wonderful songs again and Freddie's wonderful voice. Check them out when the are in your neighborhood.
Enjoy a look at the guys.
