The annual SVRA 2023 event at Road America is always fun!

On May 20th I took my first trip of the year to Road America for the annual SVRA racing meet.

There are so many classes of cars in different groups that it gets rather confusing to track a driver after learning what group he is in! Then, I have to figure out when they are going out on track!

Found the F4 cars easily enough but they had a lot of crashes on Saturday afternoon. I think they may have actually had 5 green flag laps for their whole race! There were a lot of damaged cars on one lap in two different parts of the race course. There was another crash with a few cars before that.

Cleanup time took a large portion of their race on Saturday. Too bad they didn't get more green flag racing done.

The track itself looks beautiful with a total repavement done. There is no seam on the track itself. It's amazing and every year they keep making improvements to Road America. There is now a beach with palm trees and sand on the outside of the Carousel portion of the track! It's a nice new viewing and photo spot that used to be really hard to get to.

They continue to plant new trees and the carvings on the fallen or dead ash trees are really amazing.  Checkout the owls in the photo below and there are many others with wolves and bears and more.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone and thank you to all who have served our country including my father. Without them and their service we all might not be here.

So yesterday was one of the craziest Indianapolis 500 races I've ever seen! Won by Josef Newgarden on the last lap when he passed Marcus Ericsson. Congratulations to Josef who has now won the Indy 500 on his 12th try!

After that pass was the now famous "Dragon Move" to keep the lead and win. This move has been used for the third year now and apparently is here to stay. It breaks the air on the car following you so the following car doesn't get in your draft for a pass.

Josef won the race for Team Penske and it's Roger Penske's 19th win at the famed speedway that he now owns.

The race had a bunch of wild crashes and a tire that flew off and landed on a spectator's car thankfully and didn't hit anyone!

The photos here are from last year's race at Road America. Josef Newgarden won the race and got some donuts done in turn 5 which he didn't get to do at the Indy 500.

Part 2 of the 2022 Millers at Milwaukee 2022 event.

A fun weekend at the Milwaukee Mile with the Harry Miller Indy Cars and a few others.

I can't believe that it's almost Thanksgiving. Time flies, doesn't it?

Finally catching up with things but still have a ton of Summerfest photos to edit and archive for future blogs.

So, this is Part 2 of the Millers at the Milwaukee Mile on July 8th and 9th of 2022. The previous blog was Part 1.

During this two day event I took over 600 photos at the Milwaukee Mile. Then I went to Summerfest in the evening to photograph Rod Stewart, Cheap Trick, The Tubes, John Fogerty, Los Straightjackets, Rick Springfield, The Cult and the Marshall Tucker Band!!  Probably took over 3000 photos that weekend.

Enjoy another look at some amazing and historic cars at the Milwaukee Mile.

It's such a good story of how Indy cars evolved through the years. I still can't imagine driving an Indy 500 in some of these cars, but at the time, they were the state of the art machines.

Some of these photos may look very similar to the photos in the Part 1 blog but the drivers are diffferent in a few of the cars. I'm also using 3 cameras with different setups and lenses.

I just realized that I didn't put a blog up of this great event. It was at the same time as Summerfest and Gathering on the Green. It was a busy weekend here in Milwaukee.

The Millers at Milwaukee is a wonderful event held annually at the Milwaukee Mile. This year it was on July 8 and 9, 2022 and the weather was perfect.

If you don't know who Harry Miller is, PLEASE look him up and read the amazing history of this man from Milwaukee who changed racing history.

A lot of these cars are Millers that were complete with Miller engines. But, there are some other great pieces of history here running on track as well.

I took enough photos that I'm going to split this into two blogs and this is part 1.

These cars are pieces of art and one can only imagine racing 500 miles at Indy in one of them!

Not all of them ran on track but I tried to get a photo or two of all, plus of course the famous grid photo.

My grid photo is different than the traditional one done for years from the starters stand on the side of the track. I brought my 10 foot ladder, put it in the center of the grid, and photographed the bunch as they left the grid.

JP Borre in the #28 kart on the way to winning the Cadet Rookie Championship at 10 years old!!

Where do future race car drivers begin? Usually they begin with racing go karts when they're young with lots of family support. This is not a big sponsored, big money team here.

This past year, I got to see 10 year old JP Borre on his was to winning the Cadet Rookie Championship, driving his #28 AAR stickered kart at Road America!

JP, with the supportive help of his father Emil and whole family, won the championship at Road America.

Grandfather, Ron Nelson, provided some great guidance along with Mike Lashmett and others.

Indy Car racer Scott Dixon is a lot like JP in that he's just a quiet guy until he gets racing. Once in the kart, JP is fast and drives smart.

His #28 blue kart with All American Racers stickers on it would make Dan Gurney proud! He drives like Dan and has Dan's personality that is also just like Scott Dixon.

Keep a watch out for JP Borre. He  sure does seen to have what it takes to become a great racer.
